Schoodic Peninsula
Winter Harbor, Maine

I'll start with perhaps an unpopular opinion: The Schoodic Peninsula of Acadia National Park is the best part of the park. Now that that's out of the way, let me tell you why! Although the main(e) area of the park on Mount Desert Island is beautiful and has more sites to see, Schoodic is more untouched, less overcrowded, and just as scenic as the MDI portion. Additionally, the lack of civilization nearby means much less light pollution at night, making the whole Schoodic portion of the park perfect for stargazing. A picnic on the rocks at the point of the peninsula is a wonderful spot to lunch, and setting up on the western side for the sunset in view of Winter Harbor Light is recommended. Lastly, if you collect Passport stamps, Schoodic provides stamps not found on MDI!
